Benefits 'may keep staff happy in their sales jobs'
People in media and new media sales jobs may be disappointed if their benefits are cut, according to recent comments by the associate director of the Work Foundation.
Peter Carroll told Personnel Today that human resources professionals may feel under pressure to cut staff benefits as the credit crunch continues to prevail.
However, he suggested that such a strategy would be short-term solution and may even be counterproductive, alienating staff working hard at their sales jobs in the hope of the perks they have grown accustomed to.
Mr Carroll pointed out: "Is it something you want to be spending all your time arguing about with your sales reps for the coming months?"
Also speaking to Personnel Today was Jim Savege, corporate director for organisation development with Cumbria county council, who said that laying off workers would be unlikely to save money in the long term.
Jeff Grout recently spoke at a breakfast meeting entitled Recruiting Excellence on the importance of working at retaining current staff each day, according to Online Recruitment magazine.
