Survey 'offers hope' for media sales applicants with 2:2s

Applicants for media and new media sales jobs may find themselves shortlisted despite an average degree result, a new study suggests.

Research by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGA) has discovered that a 2:1 is no longer considered a benchmark by many UK employers, who are willing to recognise that degree results may not accurately reflect what a candidate can offer.

According to the Observer, the study found that while degree results are still important to recruiting organisations, they are now considered alongside a variety of other factors.

Rebecca Fielding, talent manager with HJ Heinz, told the publication: "Quality standards across universities and subjects are also completely incomparable, so the grade is not necessarily correlated to academic capability of the candidate."

The news has emerged as the Higher Education Statistics Agency reports that 64 per cent of full-time students who graduated in June of last year found full-time positions in new media sales or other sectors.
