Office workers 'should exercise'
Workers operating in an office environment, such as those involved in the information technology or telesales industries, should ensure they find time to do some exercise, it has been claimed.
Tom Stewart, joint managing director of training and research services consultancy System Concepts, said that these days there is often little to do in the office that does not utilise a computer.
He continued: "The key thing is the requirement for activity, otherwise you end up trapped with your eyes on the screen, hands on the keyboard, bum on the seat."
Mr Stewart went on to say office staff tend to organise everything online, from emailing and filing to ordering a sandwich at lunch and finding out what they are going to do in the evening.
He added that staff are "locked to technology", even though their bodies are designed to move.
Research carried out by the University of Bristol indicates exercise can help re-energise employees and improve their concentration.
