This is a senior buying role within one of Europe's largest retailers which has weekly board level contact and ideal for an experienced professional with senior buying experience within a major retailer.

Responsible for the most important category within the group this is a challenging and demanding role that requires a genuine buying 'trailblazer' with extensive experience within a major retailer. As a key category your success will be highly visible and historically this role has led to rapid and significant promotion within the group.

With a defined succession plan already in place this is a career role that will lead into a senior commercial management role within 3 years. As such you will be a highly confident, ambitious and dynamic buyer with experience of working within a blue chip retail environment.
This is a UK wide role based from a Hertfordshire head office that has daily liaison with other divisions such as retail operations, stock management, category management and buyers managing other categories.

Sourcing and developing both products and contracts the role is 95% UK based though will require occasional European trips. This is a fast paced and rapidly changing buying environment so you will be used to negotiating and renegotiating the most competitive terms to achieve maximum profitability for each product group. You will require full awareness of the supply chain from factory to branch, with the objective of releasing cost by understanding the optimum point for taking stock ownership. The role also requires acting as a mentor/coach to a junior member of the buying team.
You will be used to developing excellent relationships with both your suppliers and colleagues and be a consummate professional that keeps a close eye on changing product lines and technologies. You will always be seeking new opportunities to maintain competitive edge and be used to renegotiating contracts with suppliers to maintain bottom line profitability.

Ideally educated to degree level you will have proven negotiation and buying skills, ideally gained within a major retailer. You will be highly driven, self motivated and able to work on your own initiative. You will have sound judgement and commercial acumen and be able to demonstrate at interview your positive influencing and persuasive skills. A second language would be an advantage.
